Dunes Casino Las Vegas Sign

The Dunes Casino opened in 1955 and proclaimed itself as “daringly different” and “the last word in Luxury”. This luxurious, desktop-sized sign is 3D-printed with white, burgundy, silver and gold silk filament to create a striking complement to your Las Vegas collection. The base was designed to recall the then-futuristic Dunes Convention Center. “The Dunes” is a double-sided sign, standing almost 21 inches high, it is our tallest sign to date. It can also be personalized with the lettering of your choice on either or both of the two marquees. A internally-lit version with 132 LEDs is also available!

Dunes Casino Sign History

The Dunes sign depicted in this recreation was originally designed and built in 1964 by the Federal Sign Company. The sign was 180 feet tall, weighed approximately 1.5 million pounds and used miles of neon tubing. It also took a full-time staff of three people to maintain. Staff, maintenance and the electric bill to power to the sign amounted to over $47,000 per year ($423,000 in today’s dollars)! The actual cost of the Dunes sign was reportedly $1,800,000 paid in lease payments to Federal Sign over 30 years. The sign itself, with the huge diamond atop, also made a big screen appearance in the 1971 James Bond film “Diamonds Are Forever”. The sign was spectacularly (and regrettably) demolished with explosives in 1993.

Dunes Casino Sign Creation

The printing on our “original” style reproduction is a combination of how the sign appeared over the years with the long-running “Casino de Paris” and the way it appeared at the end in 1993 with “Thanks for the Memories” and “1955 – 1993” on the bottom marquee (see photos). Both the top and bottom marquees can be personalized.

Our designer is a classic sign enthusiast and worked in the full-size commercial sign industry. This sign took 25 hours to 3D model and each one takes 85 hours to print and another 12 hours of hand-wiring, assembly and painting. Reviewers call the result… “Fantastic”.

Dunes Casino Sign Lighting Option

Lighting Options – The Dunes can be ordered with internal illumination with 60 white LEDs lighting the inside the top “Dunes” cabinet and both the lower marquee cabinets. Both the pylons and the top onion dome are internally lit with 72 red LEDs (see photos).
